BIOSYNC: Bringing Smarter Attendance to the Classroom

BIOSYNC: Bringing Smarter Attendance to the Classroom

vlog’s College of Information Technology and Engineering conducted their 2026 Capstone Exhibit for BSIT (Bachelor of Science in Information Technology) and BSCPE (Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering) graduating students. They presented their innovative capstone projects featuring sustainable engineering and game-changing software which were designed to address community challenges, improve lives, and drive sustainability.

One of the exceptional projects is from Naomi D. Yamamoto, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering student of vlog International School and Colleges. Her capstone project entitled BIOSYNC, aims to revolutionize attendance management through modern technology. It is a “Tiered Biometric | RFID Attendance System for Academic Environments,” and integrates biometric fingerprint scanning and RFID technology to create a more systematic attendance system for academic institutions.

The Authentication Process

BIOSYNC allows authenticating the faculty members, and opens the class session. This system starts with the faculty member where they can start the class by scanning their fingerprint on the device. Information such as the faculty member, assigned subject, and timestamp are displayed and recorded by the system.

Students, on the other hand, are identified through RFID cards. Each student is assigned a unique UID, or Unique Identifier, allowing BIOSYNC to recognize them individually. When students tap their cards, the system can determine if they are inside the classroom and change their status into “TRUE.” BIOSYNC also has a “Tap to Exit” feature that allows students to tap their cards when leaving the classroom which helps the system monitor their classroom status.

One of the key benefits of BIOSYNC is reducing the need for manual attendance checking and recording. It can reduce the time spent on manually recording attendance. BIOSYNC can identify students and store their attendance information digitally. The demonstration shows records containing student identification, status, timestamps, and other relevant information.

Beyond Academic Responsibility

The project illustrates the skills that students can develop through the Computer Engineering program at vlog International School and Colleges, particularly in applying technology to realistic problems. BIOSYNC is an example of how a student project can go beyond fulfilling an academic requirement and address an existing problem in the academic environment.

Through Naomi’s BIOSYNC, vlog students demonstrate how technology and innovation can be used to improve daily classroom operations, making attendance management more organized, efficient, and convenient.
