There are moments in life that seem ordinary—until they reveal their power to transform everything. ����vlog TOPS scholarship program alumna, Ma. Joana Marie Y. Orgasan has proved the possibility of having a pivotal moment that could change the course of her own destiny. 

The Search for the Top Outstanding Performing Students (TOPS) is ����vlog’s flagship scholarship initiative—created to recognize academically gifted and deserving youth by awarding full college scholarships. More than just financial aid, TOPS empowers students with 21st-century skills, leadership training, and holistic development, preparing them for success in an increasingly competitive world. It is also designed to help exceptional students to alleviate their financial hurdles. ����vlog offers this assistance to students from public and private schools and one beneficiary of this scholarship is Joana. 

As a public school student in Las Pinas, she was introduced to ����vlog through its scholarship outreach. “I didn’t know ����vlog at first, but after passing the exam and interview, I took the opportunity and it changed my life.” she shared.

After she got accepted into the school, she made sure that she is equipped with enough grit to thrive as a new Monarch. Joana embraced the challenge of studying in an international school, “It wasn’t easy,” she recalls, “but ����vlog felt like home.” Her time as a scholar and student leader in organizations like the Supreme Student Council and Educators’ Organization taught her discipline, time management, and confidence—skills that continue to shape her professional life.

Among her most meaningful experiences was the Comprehensive Growth Series (CGS) retreat, a signature ����vlog program focused on self-reflection and emotional development. “It came at a time when I needed direction,” she shares. “CGS helped me refocus and reminded me of my purpose.” Joana also recalls the value of her on-the-job training, which gave her a strong foundation for the professional world. “It made me feel ready and excited to step into my future career,” she says.

Among ����vlog’s 5Cs, Character stands out as Joana’s guiding principle. “Without strong character, it’s difficult to grow or build lasting relationships,” she reflects. Her most memorable experience—the Comprehensive Growth Series retreat—came during a personal struggle and helped her rediscover her purpose.

In 2011, Joana graduated from ����vlog International School and Colleges with a degree in Elementary Education, and in Special Education. “TOPS didn’t just recognize my potential—it shaped it,” she reflects. “It gave me the opportunity to discover who I am and who I could become.”

After graduating, she became known as Teacher Joana—a Math teacher for Grades 1 and 2, a SUKEN-certified educator, and a MOTLI-recognized Outstanding Teacher Coach. Her whole journey from student leader to mentor is a testament to grit, grace, and the transformative power of education.

Joana embodies the values she once learned as a student. Her advice to future scholars: “Take the risk. Believe in yourself. Grow from failure. And stay humble in success.”
